The Organisational Description Questionnaire (ODQ) is a diagnostic tool for measuring internal perceptions of team, departmental and organisational culture. The questionnaire is based on the distinction between the Transactional and Transformational paradigms in leadership styles reflected in the Full Range Leadership Model (Bass and Avolio) and measured by the MLQ 360 and MLQTeam.
The ODQ is easy to implement, just taking several minutes to complete the 28 item questionnaire. Respondents simply reply 'true', 'false', or 'uncertain' to each statement.

The ODQ provides a useful and efficient way of benchmarking both the transactional (management) and transformational (leadership) influencing styles characteristic of an organisation. The report includes a scattergram with transactional ratings and transformational ratings on the two axes. Means and standard deviations are provided and plots of the "most common tendency" against a background of nine characteristic organisational cultures. It is possible to include up to 10 separate sub-divisions within the datset enabling calculation and plotting of Transformational and Transactional scores for each sub-division. The ODQ Report is implemented by accredited ODQ Benchmarking Consultants.
The ODQ Report provides an introduction to Transformational and Transactional leadership styles, explanation concerning the particular ODQ descriptive statistics reported for an organisation, and suggestions for reviewing and improving the organisational leadership culture.
